Business & Management classes are offered to all high school students in the areas of business management, information technology, finance, and marketing.  These classes help students to prepare for entry-level jobs, personal application, and/or higher education.  All courses are open to juniors and seniors.  Please check courses which require a prerequisite
 

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT 1     6917

      9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th grades                   1 period, 1 trimester, 1/2 credit
 


Would you like to complete written assignments faster and get better grades?  If so, this class is for you!  Administrative Support 1 helps you:

  • Type assignments quickly
  • Use the computer to find and correct mistakes
  • Prepare professional looking reports for your teachers

  • Photo Editing with Fireworks software

CAREER MANAGEMENT 7301 & 7302

ACCOUNTING 1 6921 & 6922

  • Businesses track money

  • To setup a financial system for your own business

METRO CREDIT UNION 6947 & 6948

11th &12th grade                                           1 period, 3 trimesters, 1.5 credits


Students will be trained in the financial aspects of a credit union and in communication skills to operate the school site of the Metro Credit Union which services both students and employees of the school district.

Pre-requisite:  Interview and references.

Recommended:  Accounting 1 and Administrative Support 1.

 

ACCOUNTING II 6923 & 6924

11th & 12th grades                                             1 period, 2 trimesters, 1 credit


Do you want to continue your training in the financial arena? 

You will:

  • Learn differences in systems for private companies vs. corporations

  • Explore accounting for property, inventory, accounts receivable, notes receivable and notes payable.

  • Prepare for an entry-level accounting clerical position and/or entrance into a college business program.

Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Accounting 1.

 

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING 7281 & 7282

11th & 12th grades                                             1 period, 1 trimester, ½ credit


Do you want to dive into the financial records of a business? 

You will:

  • Explore the content and intent of a business’ financial statements. 

  • Analyze and communicate financial information by understanding the needs of the various users.

  • Understand the professional nature of accounting.

  • Designed for student who is considering business, particularly accounting/finance, and this class will allow them to better evaluate accounting as a professional career rather than just as a technical skill.

Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Accounting 1.

 

BUSINESS LAW 7211 & 7212

11th & 12th grades                                        1 period, 1 trimester, 1/2 credit


How does the law apply to the business world? 

You will:

  • Get an overview of the U.S. legal system;

  • Examine how the law pertains to the conduct of business and the rights of the individuals involved in business. 

  • Explore contracts, property and employment law along with additional topics of current legal interest will also be examined. 

  • Recommended for all students.

 

BUSINESS EXTERNSHIP 6785 & 6786

12th grade                                       1 period, 1 year (3 trimesters), 1.5 credits


Business Externship is the culmination of a senior’s business education during high school.  It is for the student who plans to make the office occupation area a career.

  • Attend morning classes, which includes a related business class each trimester

  • Released last class to work in a business establishment

  • Apply your junior year to the Externship Coordinator

  • Good attendance, recommendation, and an interview with the Externship Coordinator are required to be accepted into the program.

  • Monitored by the Externship Coordinator

Prerequisites:  Successful completion of two semesters of a related business course

 

MERCHANDISING & MARKETING 1 6939 & 6940

10th, 11th, & 12th grades                                 1 period, 2 trimesters, 1 credit


How does a business decide what to sell?  How do you sell to customers?

You will learn:

  • What it takes to get the product from the manufacturer to the person who buys the product. 

  • How to sell, human resource essentials such as communication skills and how to get along on the job with other workers

  • Participate in DECA, a marketing student organization that helps build leadership & networking through competition.

 

MERCHANDISING & MARKETING 2 – EXTERNSHIP-RELATED 6941 & 6942

11th & 12th grades                                           1 period, 2 trimesters, 1 credit


This course is an extension of Merchandising & Marketing 1 with emphasis on promotion, advertising & distribution.  The student will receive information on:

  • Industrial sales, marketing research, marketing careers, advertising, promotion, buying & distribution, pricing, product planning, and entrepreneurship. 

  • Students will also be participating in DECA, a marketing student organization that helps to build leadership skills and provides an opportunity for students to use what they have learned in Marketing in competition against other students from across the state.

Prerequisite:  Successful completion Merchandising & Marketing I.

 

STORE OPERATIONS 6945 & 6946

10TH, 11TH, & 12TH Grades                               1 period, 2 trimesters, 1 credit


This course is the lab portion of the Marketing classes.  This class involves operating the Abe’s Corner school store. 

The students will learn how to:

  • Operate a computerized POS cash register system to complete sales transactions,

  • Track sales and inventory levels, create UPC code labels and more, handle money, order stock, price merchandise

  • Build store displays, develop store promotions and commercials.

  • This class is great for developing leadership skills.

Prerequisite:  Enrollment in or successful completion of Merchandising & Marketing I.

 

ENTREPRENEURSHIP 6914 & 7252

10th, 11th, & 12th grades                                 1 period, 1 trimester, ½ credit


Thinking about owning your own business someday?  Would you want to learn how to start your own successful business?  In Entrepreneurship, you will learn the following skills to help you do just that:

  • Exploration and analysis of business plans

  • Development of a personalized business plan

  • Virtual computer business simulation

  • Apply business decisions in a competitive framework to learn how to make a profit.

 

MARKETING EXTERNSHIP 6787 & 6788

12th grade                                        1 hour, 1 year (3 trimesters), 1 ½ credits


Marketing Externship is the culmination of a senior’s marketing education during high school.  It is for the student who plans to make retail business a career.
