Hello Van Dyke Community,
My name is Dr. Major E. Mickens, and I am honored to serve as the new Superintendent of Van Dyke Public Schools.
I have dedicated more than 30 years to public education, serving in a variety of roles throughout my career. My experience includes working as a paraprofessional, custodian, computer technician, teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal, and director for student support services. I have also coached several sports and served as a mentor to students, teachers, and administrators. These experiences have shaped my belief that strong partnerships among schools, parents, guardians, and the community are essential to helping every student succeed.
Our district is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student has the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and personally. My goal is to ensure that every student who graduates with a Van Dyke Public Schools diploma is prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Whether they choose to attend college, serve in the military, pursue a skilled trade, or enter the workforce, I want them to represent their families and the Van Dyke community with confidence, character, and pride.
Throughout the remainder of the summer and into the school year, I will be visiting our schools, meeting staff, students, families, and community members, and learning more about what makes Van Dyke such a special place. I will also be sharing a community survey and encourage everyone to participate. Your feedback will be invaluable as we work together to build on our strengths and continue moving our district forward.
I am excited to join this proud and storied district, and I look forward to meeting each of you. Together, we will continue to create opportunities for every student to thrive.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am excited about what we will accomplish together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Major E. Mickens
Superintendent
