Summer break and hot weather are just around the corner, and it's time to start planning your warm-weather activities! As you make your summer to-do list, prioritize self-care and well-being.
*Embrace the great outdoors. Spending time outside has numerous benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and boosting creativity. Consider activities like walking, hiking, biking, gardening, or relaxing in a shady park.
*Make time for loved ones. It's easy to get caught up in our daily routines and miss out on quality time with friends and family. This summer, prioritize reconnecting with your loved ones through shared meals, game nights, movie nights, or simply picking up the phone for a catch-up call.
*Prioritize sleep. During busy times, our sleep habits can suffer. Make an effort to establish a consistent sleep schedule and give your body the rest it deserves.
*Most importantly, have fun and do something that brings you joy each day. Whether trying a new hobby, indulging in a favorite activity or simply taking time to relax and unwind, make sure to prioritize your happiness this summer.
If you or a family member are struggling with mental health or substance use issues, remember that help is available. Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential coordination service provided by the Van Dyke Public Schools, is available 24/7/365 throughout the summer to help you find mental health care or substance use treatment providers. Call 888-515-0595 for multilingual support or visit caresolace.com/vdps to search for providers on your own or receive assistance through video chat, email, or phone.
We wish you a happy and healthy summer!

We'll see you tomorrow for another great session with our Warren Police Department.

Good afternoon, Van Dyke Community. We hope you have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. School will be closed Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 27 in observance. Thank you to all who have served for our freedom.

Yesterday the Michigan Capitol Building was a bit more exciting, at least in the opinion of VDPS! Our Division II State Champion Lincoln Abes' Basketball Team took the floor thanks to Representative Donavan McKinney and Senator Paul Wojno, and had a great afternoon being celebrated and recognized. Do you see a future Congressman Bozeman posing there?

Wow! It may be 5-21 today, but it's 7-Eleven every day in our hearts. Congratulations to Coach Ken Kaercher of Beat the Streets Wrestling. His toughness, tenacity, kindness, and dedication to our Van Dyke Community have brought many rewards, and this donation from 7-Eleven was the Slurpee on top of years of dedication. Check out the article at macombdaily.com.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
For Mental Health Awareness Month, we have an opportunity to break the stigma around mental health by talking openly, compassionately, and kindly to each other. No one should ever struggle alone.
If you or someone you know wants to be connected to a mental health care provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential mental health care coordination service provided FREE by Van Dyke Public Schools to any student, parent, staff or community member:
Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365.
Visit www.caresolace.com/vdps and either search on your own OR click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.
Don’t hesitate to ask for help, use the resources around you, and never give up hope.

We don't talk enough about the great things our educators are doing, or how in-demand they are. Last week, Mrs. Whitehead and Mrs. Pluszczynski were asked to present to a group in New York state regarding some of the work being done with Silent Mentoring and absenteeism. They gave us their best ZOOM smiles for this one, and gave their best information to the group.

The weekend is a great time to think about financial freedom, with the biggest question being "How?" Thank you to State Representative Donavan McKinney for bringing this to our district.
Come to this FREE workshop on Saturday, and let's all get our money right together!

Thank you to Lt. Callow and Officer Manning of the Warren Police Department for holding a firearm safety session. Some of their advice: Remember to treat every firearm as if it is loaded and lock your personal devices. You can get a free lock at any police station in Michigan, or at our next session on May 29 at Carlson.

Last evening, Mayor Stone honored our State Champion Varsity Basketball Team at the Warren City Hall. Our players and coaches received certificates, and we were gifted beautiful roadside signs that you'll see very soon in the community!

This weekend, we celebrate Mother's Day. Moms can come in all different forms, and we love them all with all our hearts. To our moms, mother figures, moms we miss, and all the rest , we say Happy Mother's Day and we love you! You make our world go 'round.

Good afternoon, Van Dyke Families! We are partnering with the Warren Police Department to help keep you and your loved ones safe. Join us next Tuesday, May 14 at 5:00 at the Lincoln High School CTE Building. You will receive information regarding safe storage of firearms and FREE storage locks. Don't miss this potentially lifesaving event.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to the best of the best! We love our amazing Van Dyke Public Schools staff every day, but we've gotta say it even louder today. Be sure to tell your teachers, current or past, how much they mean to you.

This week, our Dental Assisting students learned CPR and were able to practice their new lifesaving skills while being certified. Way to go, lifesavers!
